This week we are featuring our sweet neighbor in the Handley Wedding District – Jamie Holder, owner of Creme de la Creme Cake Company! We’ve been known to stop on in to her bakery to pick up a slice of wedding cake as a mid-day treat – it is THAT. GOOD. And now you can pick up your very own slice of cake & other sweet treats too via their curbside pickup option! Click here to order! What’s even better? Have it delivered right to your front door via Grubhub, Door Dash, or Uber Eats! Just search for Creme de la Creme in the delivery app of your choice!
Jamie is a busy gal who has not let the pandemic slow down her baking and decorating, but we got to steal her away for a quick interview – read below!
Hi Jamie! Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I’m Jamie and I started decorating cakes and making desserts a million years ago (27) while I was in college. It was just something fun to do and it stuck! Friends started asking for wedding cakes and I got busier and busier and eventually opened my business. Here we are over 20 years later.
How many wedding cakes do you create each month?
I typically do about 24 weddings each month, 12 custom cakes, 160 signature cakes and roughly 900 cakes slices, macaroons and cookies.
What is the most popular flavor of wedding cake in your shop?
White cake with blackberry & cream cheese frosting. And my personal favorite changes all the time, it really depends on what I’m in the mood for.
What was the biggest/craziest/most memorable cake that you’ve done?
The craziest, most stressful cake we did was a 3D life-size replica of the bride’s dress and a full set of athletic lockers filled with all kinds of sports memorabilia for the groom and we drove it all to Oklahoma! It was so amazing when it was all up and running, but it took a lot to get there!
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is getting to meet with so many amazing brides, grooms & families. I love getting to know them.
What are the trends for wedding cakes right now?
The hottest cake trends today are definitely more personality driven. There are no rules – if you want a yellow cake or a blue cake, do it! I love that part of my job the most, getting to incorporate the bride’s personality into her cake.
During these trying times of navigating wedding planning during this pandemic, what advice would you give to couples that are in the midst of planning?
The single biggest tip for all of my clients is to give yourself and your vendors some grace. Everything will fall into place and be gorgeous. Also, hire a planner! It will be the best money you will spend. I also recommend meeting with your vendor well ahead of schedule right now, this will give you plenty of time to make changes as needed. Have fun with it! It really is the most exciting time in your life.
How can couples get in contact with you?
The best way to reach us is via email. You can always call the shop as well, my front end team is always here to help.
Thank you, Jamie!
